Rabbi Brahm & Elana
For Their
Excellence in Leadership

Rabbi Weinberg was born and raised in Montreal, Canada. Prior to coming to West Hartford, Rabbi Weinberg was a Sanford Lurie Scholar at the Jewish Center in Manhattan, as well as a member of the kolel at the Ramaz Upper School. He served as the rabbinic intern in both Dallas, TX as well as Great Neck, NY. Rabbi Weinberg touches lives in extraordinary ways by giving so much of himself in order to be there for others.
Elana Weinberg was born and raised in East Brunswick, NJ. She earned her Master's Degree from Yeshiva University's Azrieli Graduate School for Jewish Education and Administration, while also completing Yeshiva University's Graduate Program for Women in Advanced Talmudic Studies. Elana joined the Judaic Studies faculty of the Hebrew High School of New England where she continues to be an inspiring teacher and role model for so many young adults.
It is their leadership that has helped to strengthen our synagogue and transform it in to a place of warmth, camaraderie, and learning that has become a model to the local and broader community.

Gene & Fran
For Their
Excellence in Volunteerism

Fran and Gene Wittenberg have been members of the West Hartford Jewish community and of the Young Israel of West Hartford since moving here 33 years ago.
The Wittenbergs have volunteered thousands of hours with every major Orthodox institution since joining the community. Gene has been a leader of the Chevra Chadisha for over 30 years and took a lead role in rebuilding the Young Israel of West Hartford after the fire in the 80’s. Fran is a Mashgicha at the Hebrew Home and Hospital as well as Summerwood and was also the Hebrew Academy PTO president and treasurer who initiated the successful Mishloach Manot fundraiser that continues on to this day. They were one of the founding families of Hebrew High School of New England (HHNE) and a driving force in building its new facility. Both have served on, and often chaired, countless committees for the Sigel Hebrew Academy, HHNE, Mikveh, and Eruv. As YIWH members, they have each served on its board of directors and volunteer on a daily basis. Their volunteerism helps make our synagogue the vibrant place that it is.
